Living in Ulm/Neu-Ulm

With 120,000 inhabitants in Ulm, about 51,000 inhabitants in Neu-Ulm and three universities, the two cities on the banks of the Danube make an attractive and pulsating place to live and study. Only the river separates Ulm and Neu-Ulm and forms the boundary between the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The close relationship between Ulm and Neu-Ulm is demonstrated in a variety of projects, e.g. at the University of Applied Sciences Ulm and the Neu-Ulm University with three joint courses of study.

While Ulm is known for the historical old part of the town with its half-timbered houses and the late Gothic minster with the highest church steeple in the world, young, Bavarian Neu-Ulm is recognised for its dynamic growth. The well-known landmark of Neu-Um is the water tower in the Kollmann Park built in 1898 with its baroque-style form. In 2008 the Bavarian state Horticultural Show is held in Neu-Ulm and form the base for more parks in the town.

An attraction of both towns is their geographical situation. Surrounded by a number of man-made lakes, the Danube valley is neighbour to the unique Swabian Alb with its numerous caves and castles, and Upper Swabia (Oberschwaben) with its world-renowned baroque churches and monasteries. In addition, it should not be forgotten that the towns are within striking distance of the Alps, Lake Constance and the Allgäu – a guarantee for many leisure amenities.
